04How I lead

Leadership and teamwork

Leadership has been part of the job since the superintendent years: people, standards, decisions and the way work is organised.

  1. Evidence before assumption

Use the available signals before adding demand, cost or risk.

  2. Ownership over activity

A task is finished when the outcome is clear, not when it moved.

  3. System over symptom

Recurring problems deserve a rule, a workflow or a governance fix.

  4. Respect with standards

Firm on quality and responsibility, without losing respect for people.

  5. Data integrity is operational integrity

A wrong description, BOM link or status becomes a maintenance or procurement risk.

  6. Commercial awareness, technical discipline

Cost matters, but the decision still protects safety, reliability, compatibility and lifecycle value.

  7. Develop people, not dependency

Share knowledge, clarify expectations and build team capability so the process becomes stronger than one individual.

Framework

My Team Performance Framework

Trust → Clarity → Ownership → Sustainable Performance

Sustainable team performance does not begin with KPIs or pressure for results. It begins with trust, then clarity of roles and expectations, followed by ownership and accountability. Sustainable results become possible when these foundations work together.

01 Trust

Behaviours

  • Respect
  • Psychological safety
  • Reliability
  • Honest communication
  • Consistency
  • Follow-through

Management interpretation

Trust allows people to raise problems early, challenge assumptions and ask for support without hiding operational risk.

Linked principles

In my career

02 Clarity

Behaviours

  • Roles
  • Responsibilities
  • Priorities
  • Expectations
  • Standards
  • KPIs
  • Decision boundaries

Management interpretation

Clarity reduces duplicated work, unclear ownership and conflicting priorities.

Linked principles

In my career

03 Ownership / Accountability

Behaviours

  • Clear ownership
  • Follow-up
  • Feedback
  • Decision responsibility
  • Recognition
  • Corrective action
  • Learning from mistakes

Management interpretation

Accountability should not mean blame. It means knowing who owns the outcome and ensuring actions are completed.

04 Sustainable Performance

Behaviours

  • Execution
  • Quality
  • Readiness
  • Reliability
  • Improvement
  • Team capability
  • Results

Management interpretation

The objective is not a single successful result. It is a system where reliable performance becomes repeatable.

Linked principles

In my career

Trust, clarity and accountability are widely discussed foundations of team performance, not ideas I claim to have invented. The order, wording and links to my principles and roles are my own.

In My Leadership Practice

  1. 01Trust

Open communication, respect, support and willingness to surface problems early.

  2. 02Clarity

Clear responsibility, priorities, standards and expectations.

  3. 03Ownership

People understand what they own, follow actions through and account for outcomes.

  4. 04Performance

Material readiness, inventory control, quality of decisions, team development and reliable delivery.
